Sumatriptan lithium

Serotonin syndrome (sibutramine) The rare, but serious, constellation of symptoms also has been reported with the concomitant use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and agents for migraine therapy (eg, sumatriptan, dihydroergotamine), certain opioids (eg, dextromethorphan, meperidine, pentazocine, fentanyl), lithium, or tryptophan. Because sibutramine inhibits serotonin reuptake, it should not be administered with other serotonergic agents. [Pg.831]

Drugs that may be affected by SSRIs Drugs that may be affected by SSRIs include alcohol, benzodiazepines, beta blockers, buspirone, carbamazepine, cisapride, clozapine, cyclosporine, diltiazem, digoxin, haloperidol, hydantoins, lithium, methadone, mexiletine, nonsedating antihistamines, NSAIDs, olanzapine, phenothiazines, phenytoin, pimozide, procyclidine, ritonavir, ropivacaine, sumatriptan, sulfonylureas, sympathomimetics, tacrine, theophylline, tolbutamide, tricyclic antidepressants, and warfarin. [Pg.1086]

The 1996 Canadian Product Monograph for sumatriptan (but not the 1998 US package insert) listed the combination of sumatriptan and lithium as contraindicated. However, in a review, there was little evidence of a severe interaction of sumatriptan with lithium (692). [Pg.163]

On theoretical grounds, sumatriptan should not be used with lithium. However, a review of the subject found little substantiation for a severe interaction between sumatriptan and lithium (33). [Pg.3528]

Clinically important, potentially hazardous interactions with alprazolam, amphetamines, astemizole, clarithromycin, clozapine, desipramine, dexibuprofen, dextroamphetamine, diethylpropion, droperidol, duloxetine, erythromycin, haloperidol, imipramine, isocarboxazid, linezolid, lithium, MAO inhibitors, mazindol, meperidine, methamphetamine, midazolam, moclobemide, nortriptyline, phendimetrazine, phenelzine, phentermine, phenylpropanolamine, phenytoin, pimozide, pseudoephedrine, selegiline, serotonin agonists, sibutramine, St John s wort, sumatriptan, sympathomimetics, tramadol, tranylcypromine, trazodone, tricyclic antidepressants, troleandomycin, tryptophan, zolmitriptan... [Pg.241]

Clinically important, potentially hazardous interactions with desvenlafaxine, dextromethorphan, dihydroergotamine, ephedra, ergot, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, isocarboxazid, linezolid, lithium, MAO inhibitors, meperidine, methysergide, naratriptan, nefazodone, paroxetine, phenelzine, rizatriptan, sertraline, sumatriptan, tranylcypromine, tryptophan, venlafaxine, verapamil, zolmitriptan, zuclopenthixol... [Pg.524]

Because sibutramine inhibits serotonin uptake, and because the serious serotonin syndrome has been seen when serotonergic drugs were taken with SSRIs, the manufacturers say that sibutramine should not be taken with any serotonergic drugs. They name dextromethorphan, dihydroergot-amine, fentanyl, pentazocine, pethidine (meperidine), SSRIs, sumatriptan, and tryptophan. Possible cases have been reported for sibutramine and SSMs , (below). The US manufacturers also include lithium in their list. Note that this list is not exhaustive (see MAOIs under (d) above) and a case of the serotonin syndrome has been seen when venla-faxine was given with sibutramine. ... [Pg.206]

In two cases patients on lithium developed symptoms su estive of the serotonin syndrome after taking sumatriptan. [Pg.1129]
