Linear cathode type

Linear cathode type electrons are emitted from suspended wire cathode(s). Contrary to the scanner-type accelerators, electrons are not focussed but are emitted over the total length of the wire(s). [Pg.138]

Like all cathodes, early electrochemical kinetic studies of LSM focused heavily on steady-state d.c. characteristics, attempting to extract mechanistic information from the Tand F02 dependence of linear and Tafel parameters. As recently as 1997, some workers have continued to support a view that LSM is limited entirely by electrochemical kinetics at the LSM/electrolyte Interface based on this type of analysis. However, as we have seen for other materials (including Pt), the fact that an electrode obeys Butler—Volmer kinetics means little in terms of identifying rate-limiting phenomena or in determining how close the reaction occurs to the TPB. To understand LSM at a nonempirical level, we must examine other techniques and results. [Pg.578]

Additives can be consumed at the cathode by incorporation into the deposit and/or by electrochemical reaction at the cathode or anode. Consumption of coumarin in the deposition of nickel from a Watts-type solution has been studied extensively. Thus, in this section we discuss the consumption of coumarin, which is used as a leveler and partial brightener. In a series of papers (33, 36), Rogers and Taylor, described the effects of coumarin on the electrodeposition of nickel. They found that the coumarin concentration decreases linearly with time at —960 mV (versus SCE and 485 to 223 rpm at a rotating-disk electrode, for plating times of 8 to 75 min. A rotating-disk electrode was used to achieve a uniform and known rate of transport of additive to the cathode. Rogers and Taylor found that the rate of coumarin consumption is a function of coumarin bulk concentration. Figure 10.16 shows that the rate of consumption... [Pg.194]

Polymeric polyamines are also strongly adsorbed in the compact region of the electric double layer as a combination of multisite electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions. The adsorption results in masking the silanol groups and the other adsorption active sites on the capillary wall and in altering the EOF, which is lowered and in most cases reversed from cathodic to anodic. One of the most widely employed polyamine coating agents is polybrene (or hexadimetrine bromide), a linear hydrophobic polyquaternary amine polymer of the ionene type [129]. [Pg.176]

The amplified signals from the crystals—the four gages were connected in parallel —were impressed on the horizontal-deflection plates of the cathode-ray tube. The screen of the tube was photographed with a rotating-drum camera. The drum ran at a uniform speed and, therefore, the time base was linear. Time calibration was obtained by means of a flashing neon crater tube (Sylvania, Type R1130B) which was activated by a 1000-cycle tuning-fork oscillator. The crater tube was in the... [Pg.31]

The usual procedures for the conception of electrochemical reactors arise from the mass conservation laws and the hydrodynamic structure of the device. In fact, four types of balances can be considered energy, charge, mass, and linear movement quantity. Since the reactor must include the anodic and the cathodic reactions, it is possible to make a complete balance for the mass. The temperature also governs the stability of a chemical reactor, but in the case of an electrochemical device, the charge involved in the entire process has to be considered first [3-5]. [Pg.319]
