Lignosulfonates from

Howard A process for separating lignosulfonates from sulfite liquor from papermaking. The lignosulfonates are precipitated as their calcium salts. The product is used in the manufacture of vanillin. 

The production of vanillin for flavoring pxurposes still provides a major useful outlet for softwood lignins, but the lignosulfonates from a few mills suffice to saturate the market, even though the yield of vanillin is low. 

Ivancic and Rydholm 14) noted changes in lignosulfonate from a Mitscherlich cook upon various types of treatments by recording ultraviolet and visible spectra. Hydrochloric acid condensation of the lignosulfonate resulted in increased absorption throughout both spectra, and absorption increased with increased reaction time. Thus, the increase in color is reflected by structural changes recorded in the ultraviolet region.

Both lab and pilot trials were successful and a Norwegian patent (2 was granted for separation of lignosulfonate from spent sulfite liquor (SSL) by ultrafiltration (UF). 

Using the theory of branching processes, the condition for gelation was verified and the mean molecular mass of the sol fraction was calculated. Drying oils Core oil binders are used in oven-dried or no-bake systems and are formulated with - drying oils, such as ->linseed, ->tung, -+oiticica or - soybean oil. They are mixed with the sand, shaped and polymerized by oxygen induction at 200-260 °C. - Driers may be added. Sometimes, wood - rosins, alkyd resins, - sucrose molasses, - dextrins, starch and sulfite waste liquor (- lignosulfonate) from pulping are added.
