Liberational motion

You can recognize that heat is produced because the final solution is warmer than the original solutions. The heat liberated by the chemical reaction has warmed up the solution. (Note that temperature is not heat, however. See Sec. 18.3.) The work done is energy of motion. The gaseous C02 liberated has to push back the atmosphere. [Pg.271]

IV motion of minority candidates in both the workplace and in colleges and universities. President Lyndon Johnson, speaking at Howard University in 1965, apdy explained the reasoning behind affirmative action. As he said, You do not take a man who, for years, has been hobbled by chains and liberate him, bring him to the starting line in... [Pg.259]

In addition to an oxidizer, pyrotechnic mixtures will also contain a good fuel - or electron donor - that reacts with the liberated oxygen to produce an oxidized product plus heat. This heat will enable the high-energy chemist to produce any of a variety of possible effects - color, motion, light, smoke, or noise. [Pg.145]

Technically this means rather more than bad conductor . Metals conduct electricity because some of their electrons come free of their parent atoms and are at liberty to roam through the material. Their motion corresponds to an electrical current. A semiconductor also has wandering electrons, but only a few. They are not intrinsically free, but can be shaken loose from their atoms by mild heat some are liberated at room temperature. So a semiconductor becomes a better conductor the hotter it is. Metals, in contrast, become poorer conductors when hot, because they gain no more mobile electrons from a rise in temperature and the dominant effect is simply that hot, vibrating atoms obstruct the movement of the free electrons. [Pg.142]

Rate of Diffusion. Diffusion is the process by which molecules arc transported from one part of a system to another as a result of random molecular motion. This eventually leads to an equalization of chemical potential and concentration throughout the system, and in the case of dyeing an equilibrium between dye in the fiber and dye in the dyebath. In dyeing there are three stages to diffusion diffusion of dye through the bulk solution of the dyebath to the liber surface, diffusion through this surface, and diffusion of dye from the surface into the body of the fiber to... [Pg.520]

The inevitable conclusion from these last two observations seems to be that the peculiar structure of the active patches of copper atoms is built up after, not before, the decomposition has occurred, and that it is the result of sudden freezing of the liberated copper atoms, within a time which is probably extremely short, following their liberation as the compound decomposes. The temperature of decomposition controls the amount of mobility possessed by these atoms after liberation, and the structures formed seem to be controlled by the cohesive forces between the copper atoms, binding them into different formations which are determined by a delicately adjusted balance between the motions of the copper atoms, the time during which they remain mobile, and the possible space-lattice structures and orientations which the atoms can assume. [Pg.286]

Bhogar recommends the Yogic discipline of pranayama, breathing with intent, to win them over, to soften their rigid grasp, and to set their liberating aspects in motion. [Pg.46]

Fig. 37. CODEX exchange intensities of the carbonyl 13C signal of / -poly(ethyl methacrylate) as a function of 13C chemical shift anisotropy recoupling time N Tr for various temperatures below the glass-transition temperature.64 Each curve can be simulated by assuming a 180° flips of the side group and small-angle liberations of the main chain. Simulations of the expected CODEX curves for these motions are shown on the figure. Fig. 37.
