LHRH agonists/antagonists

Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Hormone (LHRH) Agonists/Antagonists... [Pg.229]

LHRH is a decapeptide hormone (pGlu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2) which is synthesized in the hypothalamus and induces the release of gonadotropins, luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) into the systemic circulation. LHRH agonists are commonly used to treat prostate cancer, while antagonists of LHRH are useful for many indications in men and women, such as breast and prostate cancer. [Pg.229]

For some of the compounds, A -methylation resulted in a conversion of LHRH agonists to antagonists. [Pg.306]

Stoeckemann, K., and Sandow, J., 1993, Effects of the luteinizing-hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) antagonist ramohelix (hoe013) and the LHRH agonist buserelin on dimethyl-benz[a]anthracene-induced mammary carcinoma Studies with slow-release formulations,... [Pg.44]

Calcitonin, LHRH, lypressin, and somatostatin have been formulated in lactide/glycolide copolymers as injectable, controlled release formulations (117). Various agonistic and antagonistic analogs have been studied. Generally these compounds are hydrophilic polypeptides,... [Pg.25]

Other i j[CH2—S] peptides that have been reported include both agonists and antagonists of LHRH,t35 51] a series of linear enkephalins,]39 a cyclic mini-somatostatin,]52] and cyclic RGD cell-adhesion antagonists.]53 ... [Pg.467]

Fig. 1. Hormone secretion and control of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Plus and minus signs indicate stimulation and inhibition respectively. In both male and female animals the dominant feedback effect of gonadal steroids on the hypothalamic-pituitary axis is inhibitory. The only major exception is in the female in which a rapid FSH-induced increase in the concentration of oestradiol triggers a large increase of the secretion of LH to induce ovulation. Note that LHRH secreted by the hypothalamus is carried directly to the pituitary gland without entering the peripheral circulation. Since the pituitary and gonadal hormones are secreted into the peripheral blood stream the functional response to hormone agonists or antagonists may be assessed by simple measurements of circulating hormone concentration ). Luteinizing hormone releasing hormone (LHRH), a decapeptide secreted by the hypothalamus, is capable of inducing the release of luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone. Both antagonists and agonists of LHRH have been synthesized for various uses in contraception and... [Pg.1407]
