Partial seizures Carbamazepine Phenytoin Lamotrigine Valproic acid Oxcarbazepine Gabapentin Topiramate Levetiracetam Zonisamide Tiagabine Primidone, phenobarbital Felbamate... [Pg.111]

For simple and complex partial seizures and secondary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, the first line drugs are - carbamazepine, valproate and phenytoin. Second line drugs include - acetazolamide, clobazam, clonazepam, ethosuximide, felbamate, gabapentin, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxacarbamazepine, primidone, tiagabine, topiramate and vigabactin. [Pg.303]

There is some evidence that the enzyme-inducing antiepileptics (carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin and primidone) may modestly reduce levetiracetam levels, but this is not thought to be clinically relevant. Levetiracetam does not usually alter the levels of these antiepileptics. However, some studies have found modestly raised phenytoin levels, and cases of possible carbamazepine toxicity have also been reported. There appears to be no pharmacokinetic interaction between levetiracetam and gabapentin, lamotrigine, or valproate. [Pg.543]

Commercial immunoassays have long been available for the classic anticonvulsants such as phenytoin, carbamazepine, valproic acid, primidone, and ethosuximide and generally provide useful results under normal TDM conditions. Kits for the newer anticonvulsants such as lamotrigine, gabapentin, zonisamide, and levetiracetam have become available only recently so their effectiveness in monitoring in a broad population cannot yet be evaluated. While targeted immunoassay can be a very efficient and cost-effective way... [Pg.202]
