In the middle 1970s, Vavilov s Conferences on Nonlinear Optics were held every two years in Novosibirsk in the USSR, with foreign scientists participating. When they stopped in Moscow on their way to Novosibirsk, they usually visited the Institute of Spectroscopy. The photograph in Fig. 14.9 shows Dr. Mooradian, a future Nobel prize winner of 2005, Dr. John Hall, the present author, and Professor R. V. Ambartzumian at the Institute during one such visit, and the photograph in Fig. 14.10 shows Professor M. Feld, Professor V. P. Chebotayev, Professor J.-C. Lehmann, and the present author at Vavilov s conference held in the town of Akademgorodok near Novosibirsk in 1975.
