NUT ALLERGY. The term nut is applied to a variety of seeds, not all of which are true nuts. Those most likely to act as allergens are peanut (actually a legume), walnut, pecan, Brazil nut, hazelnut (filbert), and coconut. Less common offenders are almond, cashew, pistachio, macadamia nut, and pinyon nut.
