Legislative bodies

Sakharov made his first trip outside the Soviet Union in late 1988. In 1989 he was elected to the Congress of People s Deputies, the supreme legislative body of the Soviet Union. He died on December 14, 1989.

Indirect despotism can be that of the legislative body itself, of the government, of certain orders of citizenry, of the clergy, of courts and lawyers, of the army, of businessmen and of the mob. We will examine ways of preventing these different forms of despotism. 

Concerns are being voiced from a broad spectrum of individuals and organizations. Calls for educational reform have come from the private sector, legislative bodies and national scientific and education organizations such as the AAAS (i-2), NCTM (3) and NSTA (4).
