Learning cycle

From this figure, it can be seen that in more than 60 % of the single loop control elements initially indicated as ineffective (total of 44 elements), the true ineffective element originates from the double loop learning cycle, i.e. the ineffectiveness originates from the steering element. In about only 40 % of the ineffective elements the initial single loop indication was correct. [Pg.118]

After a first random initialization of the values, a learning procedure modifies the weights and iVj during several optimization cycles, in order to improve the performances of the net. The correction of the weights at each step is proportional to the prediction error of the previous cycle. The optimization of many parameters and the elevated number of learning cycles considerably increase the risk of overfitting and, for this reason, a deep validation is required, with a consistent number of objects. [Pg.91]

The generation of these two types of knowledge in an individual is described in the Learning Cycle devised by Kolb in 1974 and illustrated in Figure Cll. As can be seen tacit knowledge is attained by acquaintance with a topic and involves divergent think-... [Pg.204]

Development is usually done in several phases. Each phase can have any number of steps. In the course we mn we assume four phases a first one in which a firm orients itself and plans which products it will develop, a second one in which a core team forms concepts and plans the project, a third one in which the core team develops the selected concept to a product with its manufacturing and market, and a final phase in which the product is exploited (Figure 3-1). Each of these phases is a learning cycle for the firm, but there will be many sub-cycles in each. The subdivision into four phases is arbitrary a complex project may need more phases. Regulations may force one to use more phases. [Pg.20]

As such, this first chapter represents what you normally expect from a textbook or other science resource, which is a set of straightforward explanations. If you do own Chemistry Basics, comparing this chapter to that book will provide a clear example of what it s like to learn science concepts with and without use of the Learning Cycle. [Pg.2]

In order to understand the importance of functionally active leads in the discovery process, I would like to describe a model for drug development that I have used in my work as a consultant. It is based on the need to establish a learning cycle between biologists and chemists, which progressively develops a chemical lead into a drug that is a candidate for clinical trials. This process is really the one on which technical innovations should be focused, because it is the rate-limiting step in the discovery process. [Pg.61]

All trainees should become aware of the expected learning cycle and their training needs with the scope of career options. A proactive trainee should insist on an induction programmed when starting a new company whatever their status and experience. [Pg.16]
