Leaks diborane

Leaking Cylinder. Wear neoprene gloves and self-contained respirator. Transfer the cylinder to a fume hood. Attach a long piece of flexible tubing to the cylinder valve outlet. Adjust the valve to give a moderate flow of diborane. Introduce the gas to the bottom of a tall vessel containing water. Diborane is hydrolyzed by water to hydrogen and boric acid.12... [Pg.204]

Caution. Diborane(6) is a highly toxic, extremely flammable gas (bp — 86.5°). Serious explosions have resulted from exposure of diborane(6) to atmospheric oxygen. All apparatus to be used for handling diborane(6) should be checked carefully for leaks. Suitable safety shields should be employed. [Pg.24]

As previously noted, diborane is considered pyrophoric. A leak may (but not always) spontaneously ignite. In addition, a leak may be ignited by a spark or the heat of reaction with moisture in air. If significant diborane is mixed with air in a restricted space, a delayed ignition may result in an explosive condition. Diborane fires should be allowed to bum out while keeping adjacent areas, especially those containing combustibles, cool with water. The products of combustion (B2O3) are also hazardous. [Pg.335]
