Leaching tests on the slag which must be removed to a suitable disposal site have shown that the material is essentially inert. Leaching tests on slag from a typical Western coal are shown in Figure 5. ...

The slag leaching test results are given in Table V. The analyses were conducted in accordance with Notification No. 13 of the Environment Agency of Japan. For purposes of comparison, the leachate standards established by the Prime Minister s Office of Japan are also given.

Extensive emission data are available on slag from the Cool Water IGCC plant. Table 4-6 summarizes RCRA test results (6). Scientists have also performed long-term leaching tests on coal gasification slag (19).

However, rotary furnaces tend to produce more exhaust gas and fumes, require more skill fill manipulation, and are more labor intensive. Also, the slags produced in the rotary furnaces, soda or fayaUte [13918-37-1] slags, normally do not pass the toxic characteristic leach procedure (TCLP) test and pose a disposal problem.
