6 LAYING AND COMPACTION OF COLD ASPHALT MIXTURES 6.6.1 Laying 

Cold asphalts produced in a central mixing plant are laid with the usual asphalt pavers having the screed s heating and vibration system switched off. 

The thickness of the mat should be appropriate, not too thick or not too thin, depending on the maximum dimension of the largest aggregate. 

Preparation of the surface before laying is similar to the one followed for hot asphalt laying (clean surface, application of tack coating or prime coating, etc.). 

Precautions Laying should not start if rain is forecasted and laying should stop immediately when rain starts. It is always preferable to lay cold asphalts in several thin layers rather than in one thick layer.
