Layered monomer assemblies

Going further into the mechanism and kinetics of mono-layer self-assembly at the mineral-water interface, in situ vibrational sum-frequency spectroscopy (VSFS) has been used to investigate the adsorption, desorption, and equilibrium monomer exchange processes of sodium dodecanoate at the fluorite(CaF2)-water interface. ... [Pg.2727]

The differences in the final properties of the copolymer according to the monomer s feed ratio were also observed for P(DHQT-co-DNBP) (12) films electrodeposited onto ITO/glass. DHQT is a fluorescent thiophene oligomer usually applied as active layer for assemble of organic field effect transistors (OFETs)/ photovoltaic cells and electrochromic devices/ while the polymer PDNBP and its copolymer with EDOT have... [Pg.36]

In reconstitution experiments, the self-assembly of the pore-forming protein a-hemolysin of Staphylococcus aureus (aHL) [181-183] was examined in plain and S-layer-supported lipid bilayers. Staphylococcal aHL formed lytic pores when added to the lipid-exposed side of the DPhPC bilayer with or without an attached S-layer from B coagulans E38/vl. The assembly of aHL pores was slower at S-layer-supported compared to unsupported folded membranes. No assembly could be detected upon adding aHL monomers to the S-layer face of the composite membrane. Therefore, the intrinsic molecular sieving properties of the S-layer lattice did not allow passage of aHL monomers through the S-layer pores to the lipid bilayer [142]. [Pg.377]

One aspect of polyelectrolytes that has received a lot of attention in recent years is their utilization in the assembly of multilayered stmctures, which are formed via alternating adsorption of oppositely charged polymers. Using a terpy-end-capped ditopic monomer with, for example, Fe salts, Schiitte et al. (1998) demonstrated that MSPs can be utilized in a layer-by-layer assembly with polyanions such as poly(styrene sulfonate). [Pg.165]

More recent efforts focused on surface modification of conductive polymers by the SECM, fabrication, and characterization of microstructures. Mandler et al. developed an approach for the formation of a 2D conducting polymer on top of an insulating layer. This approach, based on electrostatically binding a monomer (anilinium ions) to a negatively charged self-assembled monolayer of co-mercaptodecanesulfonate [MDS, HS(CH2)ioS03 ] followed by its electrochemical polymerization. The polyanion monolayer exhibited the properties similar to those of a thin polymer film [167]. [Pg.236]
