Latest on Alternatives

Turning to the June 2004 issue of the Townsend Letter for Doctors Patients, as mentioned earlier, a number of alternative cancer therapies are further explored for example, saunas, what are called vitaletheine modulators, photodynamic therapy, homeopathy, the oncotest, Coley s Toxins, and an overview of protocols. [Pg.336]

Furthermore, recent information about pancreatic enzymes is furnished by Ralph W. Moss in the November 2004 issue of the Townsend Letter for Doctors Patients in an article titled Of Enzymes, Worms, and Cancer. (Moss has a section Enzyme [Pg.336]

Moss reflects that the opponents of alternative medicine take the view that enzymes taken orally will be broken down by the digestive processes, and thereby will be ineffective. This was refuted by three physiologists at the University of Califomia-San Francisco, however, who found that the enzymes in fact remained active via what is called enteropancreatic circulation. Hence, the intravenous infusions recommended by Shively are not necessary. (Compare with antibiotics, where oral administrations mostly superseded intravenous injections.) [Pg.337]

Fonorow, in the article cited earlier, mentions that the enzymatic connection is supported by the laetrile clinics in Mexico, which claim a 1(X)% cure rate, but only if the patient has not undergone previous chemotherapy or radiation, and if the patient takes the pancreatic enzymes. [Pg.337]

It is also mentioned by Fonorow that the University of Michigan Cancer Center has found that chemotherapy targets the wrong cancer cells, killing the harmless cancer cells but missing the small number that proliferate no matter what. Professor Michael F. Clarke, M.D, assumes these to be the cancerous stem cells, as described in Chapter 10. [Pg.337]
