Langmuir-Hinselwood kinetics

We conclude the first part of this chapter with a kinetic example. We will derive, using the rate limiting step approach, the Langmuir-Hinselwood kinetics of a simple catalytic (isomerisation) reaction A B. [Pg.35]

The final Langmuir-Hinselwood kinetic expression is therefore... [Pg.37]

The determination of adequate and reliable kinetic data is laborious and time consuming. To test three phase catalytic reactors we used as a test reaction the hydrogenation of 2.4. dinitrotoluene to intermediate and final products. Langmuir-Hinselwood expressions were developed for the five main reactions and it took us several man years to obtain accurate rate equations valid over a wide range of temperatures and pressures [2,3,4]. Such a large input of manhours cannot be afforded in fine chemicals industries, where often only a few tonnes of product are made in a short period of time. Therefore units must be well operated with the highest possible selectivities and yields without detailed information on kinetics. [Pg.48]

Frequently, it is observed that photocatalytic reactions follow the Langmuir-Hinselwood model (refer to the discussion regarding the kinetic modeling of photo-catalytic reactions described in chapter V, equation (5-16)),... [Pg.124]

The main aim of this work is to study the kinetics of the hydrodechlorination of TTCE and CBZ, both alone and in mixtures, in an organic matrix, over a commercied palladium catalyst. A model based on the postulates of Langmuir-Hinselwood was used to model the mixture effects... [Pg.522]

It is very difficult to connect the catalyst structure with reaction kinetics, however, and this remains a challenge for the XXI century. There are two main reactivity models the Langmuir-Hinselwood mechanism that involves reaction by interaction between two surface-bonded substrate atoms in the rate-determining step, and the Rideal-Eley mechanism that involves interaction between a surface-bonded substrate atom and a molecule in the gas phase in the rate-determining step. Most reactions have kinetics that are consistent with the first model. ... [Pg.463]

It can be noticed that both the kinetic constants and the adsorption parameters are closer in range when compared to the ones determined for the individual runs (refer to Tables 5.1 to 5.3). This proves the applicability of the simplified Hinselwood Langmuir parallel-series model in the range of the initial phenol concentration considered. [Pg.111]
