Lake sturgeon

The first studies of retinoid status in fish were published in 1992 and 1995 and showed that wild white sucker from the polluted Des Prairies River near Montreal, QC had approximately 90% less retinol and retinyl palmitate than fish from an unpolluted site19 95. Similar results were obtained for lake sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens) from Lake St Louis, QC37, where there is a high level of PCB contamination79.

The sample densities (samples/km ) for areas not highly-strained are Clifford-Ben Nevis (1.5), Noranda (1.8), and Sturgeon Lake (2.6). Areas with marked folding, high strain, synvolcanic faults, and intrusive contacts are best sampled locally with closer spacing (e.g., Snow Lake, 10.6 samples/km. Availability of outcrop and drill core determines uniformity of sample coverage.

The OC pesticide concentrations in air at Big Creek were similar to values measured during the same period at the nearest IADN station, Sturgeon Point (Table 10). These values were typically elevated when compared with the values at Point Petre located on Lake Ontario. DDE and DDT collected in precipitation at Big Creek were also elevated when compared with the IADN sites. This variation was thought to reflect volatilization of DDT residues from soils in the Big Creek watershed. 

As part of the IADN effort, Cortes et al. [33] found similar results, showing that Buffalo is a source of increased PAH concentrations to Sturgeon Point [33]. Conversely, when the winds are from across Lake Erie, the concentrations of PAHs are lowest, suggesting that it is not always appropriate to use shoreline measurements to estimate the concentrations in the atmosphere above the lake. 

The fifth class is made up of smoked herring, halibut, haddock, oarp, pickerel, lake trout, salmon, eelB, sturgeon, etc., and brine salted mackerel, cod and caviar. ...

More recently a report by Hites, Zhu and Hoh [8] was made about how the DP highly chlorinated flame retardant was detected and identified in ambient air, fish and sediment samples in the Great Lakes of the United States with concentrations having once reached 490 pg/cm concentration at the eastern site of Sturgeon Point, New York State.
