Lactate Yeast Extract Agar

Another distinctive property is the ability of Acetobacter to oxidize D- and L-lactate to CO2 and H2O. This test utilizes a medium containing calcium lactate as both a carbon source and indicator. Growth of Acetobacter on lactate and subsequent overoxidation yielding H2O + CO2 result in formation of calcium carbonate precipitate. [Pg.65]
