Labetalol congestive heart failure

Labetalol is used in the treatment of hypertension, either alone or in combination with another drag such as a diuretic. Carvedilol is used to treat essential hypertension and in congestive heart failure to reduce progression of the disease. 

Both carvedilol and labetalol are contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drag, bronchial asthma, decompensated heart failure, and severe bradycardia The drugs are used cautiously in patients with drag-controlled congestive heart failure, chronic bronchitis, impaired hepatic or cardiac function, in those with diabetes, and during pregnancy (Category C) and lactation.

Beta,-selective blocker low lipid solubility, less CNS effect used for HTN. (Names of P,-selective blockers start with A through M except for carteolol, carvedilol, and labetalol.) Tox bradycardia, AV block, congestive heart failure.
