L- perchlorate

Thianthrene radical ion(l+) perchlorate was employed to effect one-electron oxidation of Cu(TPP) (TPP, tetraphenylporphyrinate) to [Cu (Tpp )]+[sbcy (82JA6791). It was also used to dehydrogenate thio-xanthene (44)(R = H), forming perchlorate 43 or, in the presence of an electron-rich aromatic, the 9-Ar-substituted-thioxanthene 44 (R = Ar) (80MI4 82MI4) or, in the presence of a phosphine, phosphonium salts 44 (R = P-"R (81MI7).

Phenyl-substituted cyclopentadienes 1211 are converted to pyrylium salts 1214 in the presence of silver(l) perchlorate via insertion of an oxygen atom into the cyclopentadiene ring. The preparation of tetraammineacetatonitrosylruthenium(2-l-) perchlorate, [Ru(NH3)4(N0)(C2H302)](Cl04)2, is carried out in the following manner. [Ru(NH3)4(NO)Cl]Cl2 (0.2 g) is dissolved in hot water (20 ml, 90°), sodium acetate (1 g) is added, and this solution is acidified with acetic acid and heated (90°, 30 min). The hot yellow solution is filtered into 5 ml of saturated NaC104 solution, and the mixture is then cooled (0°, 30 min). A yellow precipitate forms this is retained on a filter, washed (ethanol, ether), redissolved in cold water (15 ml), and filtered into 5 ml of saturated NaC104 solution. The mixture is then cooled (0°, 30 min) a yellow precipitate which forms is retained on a filter and washed with ethyl alcohol and ether. The yellow compound (0.10 g, 33% yield) is identified from its infrared spectrum and elemental analysis.
