Knapsack

G. Strauss and A. G. Hoechst, personal communication, Werk Knapsack, Germany, 1978. [Pg.529]

Coatiauous kilns were first used ia Germany at Knapsack (20) and later at Trostberg (21). In the Knapsack process, calcium carbide (0.75—2 mm ia size) is fed to a rotary kiln, 3 m ia diameter and 12 m long with 1% slope 1—2% calcium chloride is added to promote the reaction. The kiln produces 12—13 t fixed nitrogen per day. The product is granular and can be sold without further processiag. [Pg.368]

Note that if we relax the t binary variables by the inequalities 0 < y < 1, then (3-110) becomes a linear program with a (global) solution that is a lower bound to the MILP (3-110). There are specific MILP classes where the LP relaxation of (3-110) has the same solution as the MILP. Among these problems is the well-known assignment problem. Other MILPs that can be solved with efficient special-purpose methods are the knapsack problem, the set covering and set partitioning problems, and the traveling salesperson problem. See Nemhauser and Wolsey (1988) for a detailed treatment of these problems. [Pg.67]

Knapsack A process for making acrylonitrile from lactonitrile, itself made from acetaldehyde and hydrogen cyanide. Operated in Germany from 1958. Not industrially significant today for the production of acrylonitrile, although part of the process is still used for making lactic acid in Japan. [Pg.155]

TeRRox A process for decontaminating soil which has been polluted by hydrocarbons by treating it with hydrogen peroxide. Developed by DeGussa and operated at its plant in Knapsack, Germany, from 1996. [Pg.266]

The knapsack problem. We have n objects. The weight of the ith object is wi9 and its value is vf. Select a subset of the objects such that their total weight does not exceed W (the capacity of the knapsack) and their total value is a maximum. [Pg.352]

Applying contact herbicide (pentachlorophenol and aromatic distillate) to sugar cane by 5-gallon knapsack sprayer. Pressure is maintained by pump at right-hand side. Herbicide is being applied to ground virtually... [Pg.87]
