MICs) of a drug for comparison with anticipated blood or tissue levels. The two most common methods of susceptibility testing are disk dilfusion (Kirby-Bauer) and broth dilution. For some bacteria (eg, gonococci, enterococci, H influenzae), a direct test for beta-lac-tamase can be substituted, since susceptibility patterns are identical for all strains except for the production of beta-lactamase.
