Joule Unlimited

Using a different technology (Joule Unlimited, MA), waste CO is mixed with algae or cultures of microorganism exposed to sunlight to directly generate biofuel. This novel approach bypasses the costly intermediate steps (via lipid hydrolysis or carbohydrate fermentation) to obtain fuel from waste. 

The first application is the suspension culture of genetically modified cyanobacteria in a 4000-1 tube bioreactor, capturing CO2 for the phototrophic production of biofuels, as developed by Joule Unlimited, Inc.
