Joining accessibility model

The data model is highly normalised, which suits data integrity and manipulation via the SQL language, but creates difficulties for the end-user in terms of accessing the data. Straightforward queries may involve numerous tables which have to be joined together. As a practical work-around, the database includes several very large denormalized tables. 

The solution to any problem with a stereochemical aspect requires access to molecular models. Of these, there are two main kinds. The first is the skeletal or framework model such as those devised by Dreiding or Kendrew. These indicate the centres of bonds that join atoms, and are useful to find conformations suitable for interaction between two molecules. The other type of model, space-filling (e.g. CPK, or Courtauld), shows both the shape of the molecule and the volume that it occupies. This kind is very useful for showing the overall shape, surface and volume of a molecule. With practice, a chemist can learn to see a conformational drawing as a three-dimensional skeletal shape, and eventually as a space-filling molecule. There are also the CCS models, which are fundamentally skeletal models that can be quickly converted to space-filling types and back again (Clarke, 1977). 

The Hillman-Bruckenstein model can readily be extended to situations where there are more than two states along a given coordinate. The situation can be described qualitatively in terms of a cluster of fused 1 X 1 X 1 cubes. If the number of redox, solvation, and configuration states are u, v, and w, respectively, then the number of required cubes is (m - 1)(u - ) w - 1) depending on the experimentally accessed states, the cubes can be joined by corners and/or edges and/or faces. The situation in general can become quite complex ... 

During the summer of 1997, Mississippi State University joined with Clemson University in the summer study abroad program. The benefits of this alliance were twofold. First, it permitted Mississippi State University to immediately have access to an on-going program with a European school and with conrses already in place. This permitted Mississippi State University to model its program on Clemson s and be able to immediately send students abroad. For Clemson University, it brought in another source of students to ensure the continuity of this program.
