Jesus pictures

During the first several hundred years of church history, people were not driven to draw and sculpt Jesus, as far as I can tell. Later, the question of Jesus s face inspired artists from Michelangelo and Rembrandt to Dali. Humanity will not rest until it has a clearer picture of the son of God. 

The ceremony started at about 10 30 when Maria and her daughter took their positions before a small table that served as their altar. On this table, Wasson reported, were two holy pictures —one depicting Jesus as a child, the other his baptism in the Jordan River. This confirmed, if further proof were needed, that the Mazatecs viewed their ritual as linked in some basic way with Christianity. Furthermore, Wasson noted The Senora had asked us to take care not to invade the corner of the room on the left of the altar table, for down that corner would descend the Holy Ghost (Wasson and Wasson 1957). 

William Hirsch, an American psychiatrist, publishes Conclusions of a Psychiatrist, in which he claims that Jesus suffered from the mental illness known as paranoia. Everything that we know about him conforms so perfectly to the clinical picture of paranoia that it is hardly conceivable that people can even question the accuracy of the diagnosis. ... 

In this respect, our study is not an easy one. There is no one simple answer to the problems of the New Testament discoverable by just reshuffling the Gospel narratives to produee yet another picture of the man Jesus.
