Jeffrey period

During the period from 1959 to 1967, an extensive series of crystallographic studies were performed on si and sll clathrate hydrates by Jeffrey and coworkers (Mak and McMullan, 1965 McMullan and Jeffrey, 1965) resulting in summary reviews (Jeffrey and McMullan, 1967 Jeffrey, 1984). These studies showed hydrates to be members of the class of compounds labeled clathrates by Powell (1948)—after the Latin clathratus meaning to encage. ...

Remark 4.6 A number of problems are still open. For example the existence of (small) periodic solutions for Mcixwell models is unknown, as is that of arbitrary (not small) periodic solutions for Jeffreys models. For example too, nothing is known concerning the global existence of unsteady solutions for differential models in two or three space dimensions (say, weak solutions, singularities in finite time,. ..).
