IV barbituric

Schedule IV drugs have a low abuse potential as compared to Schedule m drugs. These substances have an accepted medical use. They could lead to limited psychological or physical dependence, according to the CSA. The Schedule IV barbiturates are barbital (Veronel), mephobarbital (Mebaral), and phenobarbital (Luminal). Five prescription refills are allowed during the six months after the patient received the first prescription. [Pg.67]

Methohexital [18652-93-2] (Brevital), C 4H gN202, (2) is a barbiturate iv anesthetic iaduction agent that has a slightly faster onset than thiopentone and less accumulation. The recovery from anesthesia is also slightly faster and better. However, iaduction is associated with an iacreased iacidence of excitatory phenomena. BARBITURATES. The barbiturate phenobarbital (Luminal) is commonly used to treat convulsive disorders. When administering the barbiturates by the intravenous (IV) route, it is important not to exceed a rate of 60 mg/min and to administer the drug within 30 minutes of preparation. The nurse monitors the patient carefully during administration of a barbiturate. The blood pressure and respirations are taken frequently.
