Enzyme kinetic studies of inhibitor are very important for considering as a therapeutic agent. It is interesting to note that isoprenoid-substituted flavonoids having non-steroidal structures are potent un-competitive inhibitors of 5a-reductase. So, it would be expected that the isoprenoid-substituted flavonoid derivative would be an interesting lead compounds for testosterone 5a-reductase inhibitor. [Pg.244]

This licorice is the main species in Xinjiang licorice and is used as a crude drug in China (79). In our study of a commercially available Xinjiang licorice, the crude drug consisted of G. inflata (50%), G. eurycarpa (7.5%), G. uralensis (2.5%) and some unidentified material (40%) that may represent hybrids 294). About sixty phenolic compounds have been isolated. The main phenols in the roots of G. inflata are liquiritin (110, 0.2-0.6%) and isoliqiritin (109, 0.1-0.5%) (36), and the main isoprenoid-substituted flavonoids are licochalcone A (213, 0.12%) and glabrone (128, 0.065%) (295). [Pg.35]
