Isophorone viscosity

Isocyanate is added to provide an equivalent ratio of 1.5-2 isocyanatc/alcohol. The higher the ratio, the more free isocyanate, and diisocyanate monomer, and the lower the viscosity. Most common is 4,4 -methylene bisphenyl diisocyanate (MDl). Its saturated analog or other aliphatic isocyanates are used where light stability is critical. Most common is isophorone diisocyanate. 

Tests of the best hydrogen bonding agents in ether-alcohol showed the following compds trimethyl-, trimethallyl-, tributyl phosphates, isophorone, dimethyl acetamide, and dibutyl tartrate were superior to dibutyl phthalate or triacetin in the amts reqd for gelatinization and in the viscosities of the resulting solns... 

Many papers and patents deal with incorporation of additives in the poly-(urethane-seq-butadiene)s to increase the condensation efficiency, to improve the processing, or to improve the properties of solid propellants. A processing aid, trialkylamine 2201 and also tetracycline 221), was shown to reduce the viscosity and increase the pot life of hydroxytelechelic polybutadiene/polyisocyanate systems. It has been shown that the cure of isophorone diisocyanate and hydroxytelechelic polybutadienes was not affected by the addition of the ammonium perchlorate propellant 222). Special modification of HTPBs have been referred to in Refs. 223 236>.

Prepolymer Foaming. Special prepolymers of PAI that allow simple foaming techniques have been developed. These t)q)es are characterized by a low melt viscosity. The use of isophorone diamine in PAI contributes to the decrease of melt viscosity since the packing density is decreased due to three methyl substituents. ... 

Isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) is another low-viscosity aliphatic diisocyanate that is useful in formulating light-stable polyurethane adhesives, and is somewhat lower in cost than hexamethylene diisocyanate. Polycondensation reactions of some urazole derivatives like 4-(4 -N-l,8-naphtha]imidophenyl)-l,2,4-tiiazolidine-3,5-dione, 4-(4 -acetamidophenyl)-l,2,4 triazolidine-3,5-dione and 4-(4 -t-butylphenyl)-l,2,4-triazolidine-3,5-dione with hexamethylene diisocyanate, isophorone diisocyanate and toluene-2,4-diisocyanate in DMAc or NMP solution in the presence of pyridine, triethylamine or dibutyltin dilaurate as a catalyst under microwave activation were earried out. Polyureas with inherent viscosities of 0.06 to 0.30 dL/g were obtained after irradiation for 8-18 min. (Mallakpour and Rafiee, 2003).
