Isomerization chemisorption complexes

In addition to phosphine ligands, a variety of other monodentate and chelating ligands have been introduced to functionalized polymers [1-5]. For example, cyclo-pentadiene was immobilized to Merrifield resins to obtain titanocene complexes (Fig. 42.13) [102]. The immobilization of anionic cyclopentadiene ligands represents a transition between chemisorption and the presently discussed coordinative attachment of ligands. The depicted immobilization method can also be adopted for other metallocenes. The titanocene derivatives are mostly known for their high hydrogenation and isomerization activity (see also Section 42.3.6.1) [103]. [Pg.1446]

The structure of Os3(/r-H)2(CO)10 has been established by X-ray8 and neutron diffraction.9 The 46-electron complex displays a relatively high reactivity under mild conditions, associated with a stable triosmium framework and has been extensively studied as a model for the chemisorption of alkenes and alkynes on surfaces and in the catalytic isomerization and hydrogenation of alkenes.10 When supported onto alumina it is a catalyst for the methanation of CO and C02 slightly less efficient than NiOs3(/r-H)3(CO)9(,5-CsH5)>... [Pg.368]

From this example it is clear that the selectivity for (a) dehydrogenation, (b) isomerization, and (c) cracking is likely to be related to the relative concentrations of mono-, di-, and tri-adsorbed complexes, etc. More generally, the selectivity of a catalytic reaction will depend on the relative chance for a molecule adsorbed on -surface atoms either to desorb or become adsorbed on (n + 1) surface atoms. This idea easily permits us to understand that dilution of an element A, capable of forming chemisorption bonds with a given molecule, with an inert element B will lower the ratio of poly- to monoadsorbed molecules and have an effect on catalytic selectivity.
