Isomer of alkane

Isomers are distinctly different compounds, with different properties, that have the same molecular formula. In Section 22.1, we considered structural isomers of alkanes. You will recall that butane and 2-methylpropane have the same molecular formula, C4H10, but different structural formulas. In these, as in all structural isomers, the order in which the atoms are bonded to each other differs. 

Isomers are compounds that have the same molecular formulas but different structural formulas. Review the writing of the various structural isomers of alkanes. Make sure that each carbon atom has four bonds. 

Conformational isomers of alkanes arise from the rotation of C-C single bonds. Different shapes of alkanes can be adopted by a molecule like ethane by rotation around the C-C bond. Robinson, Harary and Balaban [54], by plying Pdlya s theorem and Otter s dissimilarity characteristic equation [85], presented for the first time recurrence formulas for counting the achiral isomers of alkyl radicals and alkanes. Alkanes and alkane-like substances have captured the interest of researchers in isomer enumeration for a long time because of their commercial importance. For example, Henze and Blair published the first isomer enumeration of alkanes in 1931. Here we provide, for reference, tables that list the number of isomers of alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and stereoalkanes (Table 4), ketones and esters (Table 5), and primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols (Table 6) up to 25 carbon atoms.
