Isocyano-complexes

Cyano- and Isocyano-complexes.—The interaction of Zr02+ with [MoO(OH)-(CN)4]3 has been studied and the compounds KZrO[MoO(OHXCN)4] and (ZrO)3 [MoO(OH)(CN)4]2 identified.323 The X-ray crystal structure of Na3[MoO(OH)-(CN)4],4H20 shows the metal atom to occupy a special position on a mirror plane.324 

The salts MFe[Mo(CN)8] (M = K, Rb, Cs, or NH4) have been prepared by treating FeCl3 with Li4[Mo(CN)8] and MCI and the compounds shown to possess a cubic unit cell by X-ray powder diffractometry. The corresponding M2Fe[Mo(CN)8] salts have been prepared in an analogous manner using FeCl2. Their i.r. spectral 

Photolysis of a liquid NH3 solution of (NH4)4[Mo(CN)8] has been reported two photolytic intermediates were identified. Such photolysis was used to prepare Mo(CN)4(NH3)2, which was characterized by spectrophotometric and magnetic studies. Preliminary results concerning the photolysis of [W(CN)8]4 in liquid NH3 have also been reported.329 Improved syntheses of K3[MoO(OH)(CN)4],2H20 and K4[Mo02(CN)4],8H20 have been developed based on the photolysis of K4[Mo(CN)8] in aqueous ammonia.330 A kinetic study of the photosubstitution of K4[Mo(CN)8] in 0.1 M aqueous NaOH has been published,331 as have the results of several other photolyses of the [M(CN)8] (M = Mo or W n = 3 or 4) ions.332

Cyano- and Isocyano-complexes.—As mentioned above, the i.r. spectra of [Mo(CN)jNO] and related ions have been reported.  

The electronic structures of the [Mo(CN)8] (n = 3 or 4) ions have been calculated using a SCCC-MO method and the d-orbital splittings shown to be nearly identical with those calculated by crystal-field theory. Bonding considerations suggest that the stable forms of [Mo(CN)g] and [MofChOg]
