Ischemic stricture

Gastrointestinal A 30-year-old man had selective embolization of a bleeding sigmoid artery with A-butyl cyanoacrylate and 6 months later developed colonic occlusion due to an ischemic stricture that required surgical treatment [43 ]. 

History of Crohn s disease, diverticulitis, G1 perforation and/or adhesions, impaired intestinal circulation or ischemic colitis, intestinal obstruction, intestinal stricture, or toxic megacolon... 

One unanswered question is if these minor ischemic insults could lead to delayed complications such as stricture formation. Bandi et al. [6] reported no clinically significant complications in their group of 48 patients with follow-up out to 10 years. They had ten patients with clinical follow-up and 25 with objective post-procedure evaluation (endoscopy or surgical pathology). No patient had any symptoms of an ischemic complication including six patients who had minor signs of ischemia identified at endoscopy. 

Biliary complications, ischemic or non-isch-emic, occur in up to 25% of transplant recipients (Letorneau and Castaneda-Zuniga 1990). Complications include leaks, strictures, stones or sludge, dysfunction of the sphincter of Oddi, malposition-ing of the T-tube, and recurrent disease. 

Non-anastomotic biliary strictures and dilations are the result of ischemic insults to the bile ducts only within the graft (Boraschi et al. 2004). Non-anastomotic strictures are probably the result of microcirculatory problems and they usually...
