Iodine acetate fluorine compounds

Selective removal of the iodine from fluorinated compounds was performed by 5% Pd/C catalyzed hydrogenolysis in the presence of triethylamine or sodium acetate.467 Ra-Ni and 1% NaOH were used for the cleavage of the C-I bond.468 The adsorption of chloroiodomethane was studied on a Pt(lll) surface. Dissociation began with C—I bond cleavage at about 150 K. Co-adsorbed deuterium atoms weaken the bonding between the starting compound and the surface and decrease the amount of dissociated molecules.469...

The natural glucocorticoid is hydrocortisone (cortisol). Semi-synthetic 9a-bromohydrocortisone 21-acetate was found to be less active as an anti-inflammatory agent than hydrocortisone 21-acetate by a factor of three, and 9a-iodohydrocortisone 21-acetate was also less active by a factor of 10. However, 9a-fluorohydrocortisone 21-acetate (fludrocortisone acetate) was discovered to be about 11 times more active than hydrocortisone acetate. Although the bromination sequence shown is equally applicable to chlorine and iodine compounds, fluorine must be introduced indirectly by the P-epoxide formed by base treatment of the 9a-bromo-lip-hydroxy analogue. 

The next most important demand for methyl alcohol is as a raw material in the synthesis of many important organic compounds, including formaldehyde acetic acid chloro-methanes, compounds in which the hydroxyl group and/or one or more hydrogen has been replaced by fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and/or iodine methyl methacrylate, a compound from which acrylic plastics are made methylamines, the source of another important class of plastics, dimethyl terephthalate, the monomer for yet another class of plastics and other products.
