Intramolecular distribution

This takes the conventional form of standard thermodynamic perturbation theory, but with the decisive feature that interactions with only one molecule need be manipulated. Here (.., )r indicates averaging for the case that the solution contains a distinguished molecule which interacts with the rest of the system on the basis of the function AUa, i.e., the subscript r identifies an average for the reference system. Notice that a normalization factor for the intramolecular distribution cancels between the numerator and denominator of (9.22).

At present, a number of questions remain open. There is the specific question on the structure of the often branched side chains and the more general question on whether structural features are intra- or intermolecular phenomena. Do the molecules of a pectin preparation have smooth and hairy regions or is there a mixture of pure galac-turonan molecules and galacturonan molecules with many side chains How is the inter- and intramolecular distribution of methoxylated and free carboxyl groups ...

Intramolecular distributions of tritium, examples of which can be seen in Fig. 2, have been investigated by a number of authors. No cases have been found in which the distribution is truly random in the parent molecule (cf. glucose, alanine, and iraws-cinnamic acid, Fig. 2). Cases in which the replacement of a specific group by tritium might be expected to lead to a specifically labeled molecule have also not been found (cf. labeled benzoic acid from p-hydroxybenzoic acid, Fig. 2). 

Furthermore, intramolecular distributions in the same molecule can vary widely with the method used to label it (cf. White and Rowland, 1960a). The distribution in a labeled steroid was determined by Bradlow et al., (1959). Other degradative work has been reported by Brown and Garnett (1959) and by Henchman and Wolfgang (1961). 

Abstraction and substitution reactions also take place in alkenes. No definitive answer on intramolecular distributions of tritium, i.e. CT= versus —CHT— in substitution reactions in the gas phase has been obtained as yet but the indications are that there is no great selectivity for substitution of one or the other types of hydrogen (Lee et al., 1960a). Isomerization about the double bond following substitution has been discussed. 

The polymer RISM theory relates the set of total correlation functions (r) = g(r)-l to the set of site-site direct correlation functions, (c(r), and the set of intramolecular distribution functions, w(r), via the nonlinear site-site Ornstein-Zemike-like (SSOZ) integral matrix equation [41]... 

The specific radioactivity of the carbonaceous deposits has not been determined. The intramolecular distribution of the label in isobutane and in isopentanes has not been studied.
