The International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS) was developed and structured on the basis of recommendations of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (1972). It is a cooperative venture between WHO, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and International Labour Organization (BLO). [Pg.9]

established in 1972, is the UN agency for the promotion of wise use and sustainable development of the global environment (UNEP 2006). [Pg.9]

founded in 1919, is the UN specialized agency for the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights. [Pg.9]

IPCS was established in 1980 and is responsible for implementation of activities related to chemical safety. WHO is the Executing Agency of the IPCS. [Pg.9]

The two main roles of the IPCS are to establish the scientific basis for the safe use of chemicals and to strengthen national capabilities and capacities for chemical safety. [Pg.9]
