Kowalski 1975), soon after founding the International Chemometrics Society on June 10, 1974 in Seattle together with Svante Wold (Kowalski et al. 1987). [Pg.19]

Using a definition similar to that of the International Chemometrics Society, chemometrics can therefore be summarized as follows ... [Pg.5]

The notation chemometrics was introduced in 1972 by the Swede Svante Wold and the American Bruce R. Kowalski. The foundation of the International Chemometrics Society in 1974 led to the first description of this discipline. In the following years, several conference series were organized, for example. Computer Application in Analytics (COMPANA), Computer-Based Analytical Chemistry (COBAC), and Chemometrics in Analytical Chemistry (CAC). Some journals devoted special sections to papers on chemometrics. Later, novel chemometric journals were started, such as the Journal of Chemometrics (WUey) and Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems (Elsevier). [Pg.2]

Roberto Todeschini is full professor of chemometrics at the Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Milano-Bicocca (Milano, Italy), where he constituted the Milano Chemometrics and QSAR Research Group. His main research activities concern chemometrics in all its aspects, QSAR, molecular descriptors, multicriteria decision making, and software development. President of the International Academy of Mathematical Chemistry, president of the Italian Chemometric Society, and ad honorem professor of the University of Azuay (Cuenca, Ecuador), he is author of more than 170 publications in international journals and of the books The Data Analysis Handbook, by I.E. Frank and R. Todeschini, 1994, and Handbook of Molecular Descriptors, by R. Todeschini and V. Consonni, 2000. [Pg.1232]

In recent years the term qualimetrics has been coined to refer to the use of chemometrics for the purposes of quality control (Massart et al. 1997). ft relates particularly to the use of multivariate analysis of process control measurements. Other texts on quality assurance in chemical laboratories include the latest edition of Garfield s book published by AOAC International (Garfield et al. 2000), material published through the Valid Analytical Measurement program by the LGC (Prichard 1995), and books from the Royal Society of Chemistry (Parkany 1993,1995 Sargent and MacKay 1995). Wenclawiak et al. (2004) have edited a series of Microsoft PowerPoint presentations on aspects of quality assurance. [Pg.9]
