Intermediate screening

Some applications, such as Office, have literally hundreds of possible components. These larger applications usually present an intermediate screen asking whether you want to add or remove particular components or whether you wish to completely uninstall the product. Acrobat has very few options and simply starts the uninstall routine immediately.

Using indolyl-based substrate analogs such as 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-ace-tate, butyrate, or propionate (X-acetate, X-butyrate, and X-propionate) for esterases and using the p-rosaniline assay coupled with ethanol, butanol, or propanol for alcohol dehydrogenases we were able to isolate several hundred candidates in the first level of a hierarchical screen. An intermediate screen was then used to characterize and compare the esterase candidates. We used nitrophenyl and methyl-umbelliferyl derivatives to analyze esterase candidates and their preference for chain length. 

Reproductive Toxicity. The only available human study shows no adverse effects on the sperm of men exposed for a chronic period (Tuohimaa and Wichmann 1981). Further intermediate screening tests assessing In vitro sperm fertilization ability would be useful in determining that this substance poses no reproductive risk. More information on the effects of inhalation exposure on FSH levels is needed in order to confirm that the decreases in FSH noted in men exposed for an acute period are exposure related and not a result of individual variations or not just extremely transient (Pedersen and Cohr 1984b). Multigenerational animal studies could be considered.
