Interdisciplinary research, advantages

The synthesis and application of MOPs is a flourishing area of interdisciplinary research. Recent discoveries have led to a growing understanding of the underlying structure-property relationships for this class of material although much remains to be uncovered. A key advantage of MOPs is the very broad synthetic diversity that may be achieved. This promises a range of new microporous polymers with tailored physical and chemical properties that are unobtainable in other microporous materials. 

Advantages and disadvantages are based on findings in previous interdisciplinary research (Campion 1988, 1989 Campion and Berger 1990 Campion and McClelland 1991, 1993 Campion and Thayer 1985). 

If parapsychology is concerned in an interdisciplinary way with the question of the potentials of human experience, then the controlled exploration of experimental mysticism, facilitated by psychedelic drugs, is an important parapsychological research area, where psychopharmacology, psychiatry, psychology, and theology can meet to mutual advantage. 

The above advantages of the gold-thiol system have resulted in the extensive use of gold-thiol monolayers by the whole scientific community. A brief research of the literature shows that more than 2000 papers have been published since 1983 studying self-assembled monolayers of thiols on gold. We have therefore made no attempts to make the present review comprehensive however, we have endeavoured to include all recent seminal work in the area. The subject is highly interdisciplinary, and we put perhaps more emphasis on the chemical aspects of the monolayer science than the authors of some other reviews. 

The pumping system can be used on almost all research ships, provided the vessel is equipped with a moon pool and a specific mounting plate. It combines the advantages of relatively low ship costs per sample (when passing from station to station) with the possibility of interdisciplinary studies.
