Intercalating synthesis

Armin Weiss (1981) presented some results of experimental work using mont-morillonite, he was able to show that the complete information present in a matrix is passed on to the daughter layers. In principle, the intercalating synthesis of a new layer of montmorillonite from the nutrient solution can be compared to the replication of a DNA chain. The distance between the layers is of great importance in these experiments and acts as a performance-limiting factor. [Pg.182]

Quinacrine concentrates in the scolex of the parasite and causes the muscles needed for holding onto the intestinal wall to relax. The worms are stained yellow and pass from the body, still aUve. Quinacrine can intercalate with DNA and inhibit nucleic acid synthesis. It creates fluorescent bands in deoxyadenylate—deoxythmidylate-rich regions of DNA and has been used as a stain in the study of human genetics. [Pg.245]

Inspired by the separation ability of cyclic selectors such as cyclodextrins and crown ethers, Malouk s group studied the synthesis of chiral cyclophanes and their intercalation by cation exchange into a lamellar solid acid, a-zirconium phosphate aiming at the preparation of separation media based on solid inorganic-organic conjugates for simple single-plate batch enantioseparations [77-80]. [Pg.66]

Hie reactions of 4-chloropyridines and quinolines 17 with benzotriazoles 18 in a modified Graebe-Ullman synthesis give excellent yields of Y arbolines and their benzo-fused derivatives 20. Excellent yields for preparation of the penultimate benzotriazole precursors 19 are reported as well. In the optimized one-pot conditions, the combined neat substrates are heated with microwave irradiation (MW) for short (7-10 min) durations. The crude 19 is treated with H4P2O7 and irradiated futher (4-6 min). The resultant y-carbolines 20 were methylated to form the quaternary salts. These were tested and found to lack DNA intercalation properties <96JOC5587>. [Pg.159]

The way in which this is done has a major effect on the formation of a particular nanocomposite and this is discussed further below. A wide range of w-amino acids have been intercalated between the layers of MMT [14]. Amino acids have been successfully used in the synthesis of polyamide... [Pg.30]

Polyimide-clay nanocomposites constitute another example of the synthesis of nanocomposite from polymer solution [70-76]. Polyimide-clay nanocomposite films were produced via polymerization of 4,4 -diaminodiphenyl ether and pyromellitic dianhydride in dimethylacetamide (DMAC) solvent, followed by mixing of the poly(amic acid) solution with organoclay dispersed in DMAC. Synthetic mica and MMT produced primarily exfoliated nanocomposites, while saponite and hectorite led to only monolayer intercalation in the clay galleries [71]. Dramatic improvements in barrier properties, thermal stability, and modulus were observed for these nanocomposites. Polyimide-clay nanocomposites containing only a small fraction of clay exhibited a several-fold reduction in the... [Pg.665]
