Induction of arrhythmia is required in almost all cases of suspected failure to deliver therapy, in order to evaluate the ability of the ICD to sense ventricular arrhythmias. Both induction of ventricular fibrillation and, if possible, ventricular tachycardia should be performed. Finally, intentional delivery of a subthreshold shock to verify the ability of the ICD to redetect ventricular fibrillation may be required, particularly if an older integrated bipolar endocardial lead is present (90). 

Recently, there has been significant interest in peptidomimetic forms of Tat49 57, not only because of its membrane translocation activity, but as a means of treating HIV infection [1]. Several peptoids, similar in sequence to Tat49 57, have been synthesized with the intention of preventing the HlV-Tat/Tar interaction, and thus preventing HIV replication [24, 25, 30, 31]. However, only recently has this class of peptoids been applied to membrane translocation and dmg delivery applications. 

For precise work, volumetric pipets that are labeled class A have a certain time in seconds imprinted near the top (see Figure 4.10) this is the time that should be allowed to elapse from the time the finger is released until the pipet is completely drained. The reason for this is that the film of solution adhering to the inner walls will continue to slowly run down with time, and the length of time one waits to terminate the delivery thus becomes important. The intent with class A pipets, then, is to take this rundown time into account by terminating the delivery in the specified time. After this specified time has elapsed, the delivery is terminated. 

This close definition of the client and service remit was true of virtually all of the practitioners interviewed. This segmentation was not an apparently intentional outcome, but a product of a prevalent model of service delivery that in being highly individualized tends to miss the influential interplay of family relationships and roles and their effect on all family members behaviours. It is just possible that a more family-centred approach that takes into account these dynamics, and works with them as they play out between family members, could achieve some alleviation of the near intolerable stresses that families seem to experience. This kind of family systems therapeutic work is not common. It is difficult, resource-intensive work and undoubtedly requires very skilful management given the emotional tenor of such intervention. As many of these practitioners described, intervention with families, even in the limited terms of enlisting help for their client, invited great caution. 

The present-day Black Sea, similar to many other seas, is an area of practical human activity. Changes in the composition of flora and fauna are caused by the unintentional delivery of new species with ships, by intentional introduction of commercial species and unintentional release of other species with them, by insertion by aquarium holders, and by the propagation and spreading of species over newly constructed canal systems that connect previously isolated basins. At present, among the above-listed ways (vectors) of penetration of accidental invaders, the principal ways are the transfer with the ballast ship waters and traveling with the fouling communities of ship hulls. 

The clinical use of pledgets is usually reserved for administration of mydriatic solutions such as phenylephrine. This method of drug delivery allows maximum mydriasis in attempts to break posterior synechiae or dilate sluggish pupils. Mydriasis of the inferior pupillary quadrant for intentional sector dilation of the pupil can also be achieved (see Chapter 20).
