Integrated real-time inspection

A method that would enable detection and classification of the bone content in 100% of the incoming frozen fish blocks in real time without delaying the production line was desired. An obvious solution to this was the use of X-ray inspection. X-ray inspection however requires the integration of a highly sensitive inspection equipment with the corrosive atmosphere associated with food processing as well as the tough restrictions imposed by the health authorities regarding irradiation of food. 

It has developed a real time method to compare successive non-destructive inspections of the steam generator tubes in nuclear power plants. Each tube provides a safety barrier between the primary and secondary coolant circuits. Each steam generator contains several thousands of tubes whose structural integrity must be ensured through the lifetime of the plant, Therefore, Laborelec performs extensive nondestructive tests after each plant outage. 

The automatic measurement offers numerous advantages in comparison to the manual measurement with conventional polariscopes and polarimeters. Besides an increased level of reliahility through a much better repeatability and reproducibility, the developed systems allow it to fiie the measuring results for documentation purposes and subsequent statistical analysis. The real-time capabiiity makes it possibie to integrate tbe technology into the production processes, e.g. into inspection machines.
