In 1965 the first issue of Elektrokhimiya (the Russian journal of elecRochemistry) was published. In 1952 the first monograph on elecRochemical kinetics written by Frumkin and co-workers was published in Moscow.

Although the imperial government wanted scientists to help Germany become economically competitive, it did not want to finance institutes. In fact, a few days before the inauguration of the first Kaiser Wilhelm Society institute, it was still unfunded. At the last minute, Leopold Koppel, chair of the German Gaslight Company, offered to finance a Kaiser Wilhelm Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry with two conditions the Kaiser must thank him publicly, and Fritz Haber must be the institute s director.

For more than 30 years at Lomonosov Moscow State University, later at Karpov Institute of Physical Chemistry, and recently at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala (V. G. Kessler), the authors of this book have systematically studyiedthe synthesis and properties of homometallic alkoxides of Groups I-Vm of the Periodic Table, the bimetallic derivatives (alkox-oaluminates, -titanates, -zirconates, -niobates, -tantalates, -molybdates, -tung-...

Berlin, where he received his Ph.D. in 1925. In 1926 he habilitated for physical chemistry in Sofia, where he became extraordinary Professor in 1926, and full Professor in 1937. In 1930/31 he worked as a Rockefeller scholar at the TH Berlin, and in 1935/36 at the Technical Institute of the Ural in Sverdlovsk, USSR (now Ekaterinburg, Russia). He was Guest Professor in Breslau from 1941 to 1944 and then went to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry in Berlin. From 1945 until 1963 he was Professor at the Technical University of Berlin (West-Berlin). Stranski made fundamental contributions to the theory of crystal growth and surface chemistry (see - Stranski-Krastanov heteroepitaxial metal deposition) and [ii].
