Inner "void" region

The experiment was performed in the ZPR-Vn experimental facility at Argonne rather than in the BORAX-V reactor. Each superheater fuel element contained five stainless-steel boxes with four fuel plates per box. The inner pair of fuel plates contained 27.9 g U-235 each, and the outer two 15.0 g each. Thin voided regions separated the fuel plates from the moderator and from each other. The fuel plates consisted of highly enriched VOt contained in type-304 stainless-steel cermet core with type-304 stainless-steel cladding. The peripheral-zone fuel was enriched to 3 wt% and was contain in aluminum tubing arranged in a 1.27 cm square lattice. Pellet diameter was... [Pg.120]
