DCA is used as a cauterizing agent in the treatment of all types of warts, calluses, corns, xanthelasma, seborrheic keratoses, ingrown toenails, etc. It is just as effective as other methods such as electrodessication or dry ice.

Urinary tract The urinary phenol concentrations from physicians after performing chemical matrixectomy for ingrown toenails were measured. The highest concentrations were measured as almost lOmg/L within the first 2h post exposure, and subsequently decreased approximately Img/L every 2h for the first lOh post exposure. The levels dropped to 3mg/L at 72h post exposure. The exposure was below tiie safety limit set in Spain. However, the authors advised the use of localised gas extraction systems with a mobile articulated aspiration inlet placed close to where the phenol is applied [82 ].
