Inflammable substances

Based on the ignition temperature of these inflammable substances. Table 7.4 shows the groups of substances requiring specially constructed motors. [Pg.179]

LEL is the most important of the two limits. It is mostly useful when inflammable substances are handled in confined spaces (reservoirs, painting cabins, ovens etc). Detaiis of limits of inflammability are kept by chemical substance manufacturers who are required to mention them on safety sheets that have to be put at clients disposal. When compared with the equilibrium concentration determined as indicated before, LEL aiiows determination of whether a working environment presents a risk of explosion in the presence of a source of ignition. [Pg.50]

It is not crucial in regard to safety to devise an estimation model for mixture flashpoints given the complexity of the issue. Generaliy speaking, in most cases it wiil be sufficient to know the inflammability parameters of the pure compounds, at least for mixtures of inflammable substances. [Pg.68]

There are several authors who have shown interest in estimating mixture f iash-points from the point of view of studying mixtures of inflammable sut tances, and mixtures of an inflammable substance with one or several incombustible substances. This latter aspect was of particular interest because this type of mixture is sometimes used to improve solvent qualities and reduce the inflammability. [Pg.68]

NGF, in addition to its direct sensitizing action in the peripheral terminal, is retrogradely transported to the cell body, where, via the ERK MAPK and CREB pathways, it increases expression of substance P (sub P), CGRP, BDNF, ASIC and Navl-8, and produces an increase in TRPV1 translation. Navl-8, ASIC and TRPV1 are shipped to the periphery, where their increased levels further augment peripheral sensitivity. After peripheral inflammation, substance P and BDNF are expressed in low threshold... [Pg.933]

The deliveryman called the local fire and rescue squad, who found on the premises quantities of ether, alcohol, and other inflammable substances The rescue squad called the fire marshal. Upon examination of the laboratory, the marshal called DFA. [Pg.193]

When working with spontaneously inflammable substances (e.g., organome-tallic compounds) or with reactions on a larger scale, where there are rapid changes of pressure, it is advantageous to employ a backstop valve. [Pg.64]

We find in Albertus a general knowledge of many specific facts and operations of chemistry. He knew of the operations of distillation and sublimation and of the apparatus used in these operations, of the purification of gold and silver by cementation and by the use of lead. He knew that quicksilver may be successively distilled without loss of weight that cinnabar can be produced by the union of quicksilver and sulphur that wine, when heated gives off an inflammable substance which he calls an oil (oleum) supernatant and inflammable. 61 He describes many metals, minerals, salts and other substances, without, however, adding any facts of interest not comprised in the authorities which precede him. [Pg.250]

As to the real nature of fixed air, Black, in his manuscript notes, says With regard to its origin, when treating of inflammable substances and metals, I shall consider this more completely. I shall now only hint that it is a vital air, changed by some matter, seemingly the principle of inflammability, [that is phlogiston].6 A contemporary of Black, Dr. Leslie, also says, Dr. Black seems to consider fixed air as a particular modification of common air with the principle of inflammability. 0 Black was an adherent of the phlogiston theory until after Lavoisier had published, in 1789, his Elementary... [Pg.466]

Polyvinyl nitrate is a readily inflammable substance which bums without melting. It has not been used industrially on account of its poor chemical stability. Further, imlilffi nitrocellulose, it cannot form solutions which after evaporation of the solvent, leave a film of high mechanical strength. This is probably the result of lack of orientation of the molecular chains. [Pg.173]

Among the affinities of a substance there is frequently one which predominates, and which stamps it with a peculiar character, and, upon which the principal part of its properties are dependent. It is these predominating affinities which are more particularly serviceable in the classification of the chemical properties of different substances, and of the chemical phenomena derived from them thus, affinity for oxygen distinguishes inflammable substances the reciprocal affinity of acids and alkalis constitute acidity and alkalinity for this reason, these affinities and their effects are the principal object of chemical consideration. ... [Pg.433]

Repairs to glassware have considerable hazards associated with them. The damaged apparatus may have contained inflammable substances or may have been washed with inflammable solvents. These will evaporate and can easily form explosive mixtures with air, with consequent danger to the glassblower. [Pg.10]

In many cases, bonding enables the repair of damaged workpieces or components of metal and nonmetal materials. The decisive advantages of repair bonding are the favorable ratio of repair costs to acquisition costs of new components, the shortening of downtimes, application even in environments with inflammable substances and thus no dismounting of the repair part. [Pg.81]

I pve bdow the common En ish processes but in my opinion the practice is, to melt the whole quantity ol arsenic, with a small portion of the lead first and tbm to add this stron y arseniated lead to the unalloyed lead, when dw latter is melted The arsenic, should not bo orpimmU It should be white arsenic. It should be mixed with three or four times its bulk of charcoal, lampblack, rosin, or some carbonaceous or inflammable substance, and being tightly inclosed in several folds of paper, should be thrust down with a stick to the bottom of the lead. The pan of melted lead, should be then covered, m order to aid the impregnation of the lead with the arse-mc The pan should be of thin cast or thick sheet iron far the heat must not be too great. It is ri it, when the surface of the lead b irridescent ... [Pg.81]
