Wlieii the tungsten filament inside tlie bulb is heated to a higli temperature (about 3000°C), tlie tiuigsten sublimes (solid —> gas phase transition) and then it condenses on the inside walls of the bulb. Tlie inert, pressurized Ar gas retards sublimation and oxidation of the tungsten filament. [Pg.308]

The tanks are equipped with fittings for aeration and ventilation, inertization, pressure equalization, and flame barriers (Figure 2.6-2). [Pg.190]

In a third type of airless vapor degreaser, the air is replaced with nitrogen (or another inert gas), and then pressurized the desired cleaning operations are conducted and then the inert pressure is relieved and the atmosphere replaced with clean dry air at ambient pressure. [Pg.70]

This compact reactor configuration uses a small, inert pressure suppression containment resulting in a high level of safety and economic attractiveness. The SCOR reactor development has applied a safety by design approach to reduce or eliminate the consequences of most accident sequences. Fuel assemblies have standard French PWR features. To take advantage of the small power density and improve plant availability, a simplified concept of the safety systems was developed, enabling an extension of the interval between maintenance shutdowns to 24 months or more. [Pg.195]

The inert pressure switching valve is to be toggled, to allow the piston to evacuate the cylinder and then allow the vessel to All with solvent. [Pg.851]

For monitoring the pressure in anvil cells we use the frequncy shift of internal, chemically inert pressure calibrants. For Raman spectroscopic measurements, the most commonly used method is based on the pressure-induced frequency shift of the fluorescence line of a small piece of ruby that is placed in the sample compartment of the cell, next to the sample [1]. For infrared spectroscopic measurements, we have developed a quartz pressure scale [9], a BaSO pressure scale [10], and an HOD pressure scale [11], In the case of the first two techniques, a small amount of powdered quartz or BaSO powder are placed in the sample hole on the gasket, together with the sample under investigation. The infrared spectra of quartz or BaSO, which are relatively simple, are recorded simultaneously with the spectrum of the sample and the pressure on the sample b then determined from the frequency shift of the infrared bands of quartz or BaSO. The HOD pressure scale was developed specifically for aqueous solutions. In this case, the pressure in solution is determined from the frequency shift of the uncoupled O-H stretching band of residual HOD in DjO solutions, or from the uncoupled O-D stretching band of residual HOD in HjO solutions [11]. [Pg.46]
