Aromatic fractions can be alkylated with olefins to produce products which are used as synthetic lubricants.An aromatic fraction boiling between 160 and 210°C is generally alkylated with Cm to Cw olefins in a ratio of about 2 1. A higher-boiling aromatic fraction (boiling between 210 and 260°C) is reacted with Cs to Cw olefins in a ratio of 1 3. Aluminum chloride promoted with hydrogen chloride is the catalyst normally used. When the alkylated aromatics are blended with thickeners such as polyisobutylene, the mixture obtained is an excellent lubricant with a good viscosity index, stability, and pour point. [Pg.810]

An additional feature of these latexes was the improvement in freeze-thaw stability which occurred [111]. In CONCLUSION, lithium is universally accepted as a mood-stabilizing drug and an effective antimanic agent whose value is limited by its poor therapeutic index (i.e. its therapeutic to toxicity ratio). Neuroleptics are effective in attenuating the symptoms of acute mania but they too have serious adverse side effects. High potency typical neuroleptics appear to increase the likelihood of tardive dyskinesia. Gore et al. [8] reported, for the first time, the existence of an optimum level of partial premixing for minimum NO emissions from turbulent jet flames. The optimum equivalence ratio ( 5) for a minimum emission index was found to be f.5, which is less than that found for the laminar flames discussed above. Lyle et al. [f5] confirmed the existence of an optimum level of partial premixing for both confined and unconfined turbulent flames. Lyle et al. [15] established that changes in thermal NO production do not control the emission behavior of partially premixed turbulent flames. More recently, Kemal et al. [10] have shown that a minimum in NO emissions can also be obtained for sudden dump-stabilized turbulent partially premixed flames. [Pg.442]

The stability of a metalloporphyrin can be roughly estimated by the charge-to-radius ratio (Z/yj). Buchler et al 1 found that the stability index, SI = 100(ZAr/yj), where X is the Pauling electronegativity, predicts the stability of a metalloporphyrin to acid demetallation, and correlated the SI to the Falk-Phillips stability criteria (Table 2). [Pg.818]

Yokono et al. [85] have suggested that the results obtained by Lewis and Edstrom [84] can be understood in terms of the maximum value of the index of free valence as calculated by the HMO method. However, as Herndon [30] has shown, some discrepancies occur when the free valence approach is applied to the experimental findings. However, the circumferential wall heat transfer area increases as the aspect ratio increases. So, from a heat transfer, dynamic stability perspective, a large aspect ratio is desirable. The ratio 1,3,5/1,2,4-TIPB does increase with increasing pore/void size and does reveal a difference between 10-13 A sized microporous materials and the mesoporous SiO2-Al203. The ratio of the residual activity after incubation to the initial activity provides a measure of stability. Because it is a ratio of activities, this stability index automatically corrects for differences in activity due to variation in enzyme expression levels in the random mutant library. The majority of random mutants are less stable than the parent. However, a small number of more stable mutants can be identified provided the variation inherent in the screen is small (Gershenson and Arnold, 2000). [Pg.178]
