Indanyl-2-carbaldehydes

Researchers of Firmenich investigated the olfactive properties of a series of indanyl-2-carbaldehydes (Figure 6.7) [159]. One of them (R = Me2CH) resembles the famous scent of Bourgeonal , a product of Quest International. 

An entirely unsolved problem concerns the iso-selective hydroformylation of tertiary olefins. Thus, it is known that 2-methyl-indanyl-2-carbaldehydes and then-corresponding alcohols can show a distinct odor impression. The subsequently illustrated branched alcohol was found as a new member of floral muguet (Uly-of-the valley)-type odorants (Scheme 6.79) [5]. The compound can be considered as a conformationally restricted analog of Majantol , a trademark of Haarmann Reimer (now Symrise) and Wacker, which is now also manufactured by Shanghai Richem.
