Inconel®

Inconel (typically 76 per cent Ni, 7 per cent Fe, 15 per cent Cr) is used primarily for acid resistance at high temperatures. It maintains its strength at elevated temperature and is resistant to furnace gases, if sulphur free. [Pg.299]

The measuren.cnts are performed on a sample made from Inconell IN 718 placed at our disposal by Me oren- und Turbinen-Union Miinchen GmbH (MTU). The sample is of disk shape and has a curved side and a flat side, see also fig. 6. On the curved side MTU had detected a segregation reaching to the surface but with unknown depth. It had been detected by segregation etching and its existence was confirmed by eddy current testing. Both methods are successful only in such a special case where the segregation extends to the surface. [Pg.990]

It is extensively used for making stainless steel and other corrosion-resistant alloys such as Invar(R), Monel(R), Inconel(R), and the Hastelloys(R). Tubing made of copper-nickel alloy is extensively used in making desalination plants for converting sea water into fresh water. [Pg.67]

Stainless steel alloys show exceUent corrosion resistance to HCl gas up to a temperature of 400°C. However, these are normally not recommended for process equipment owing to stress corrosion cracking during periods of cooling and shut down. The corrosion rate of Monel is similar to that of mild steel. Pure (99.6%) nickel and high nickel alloys such as Inconel 600 can be used for operation at temperatures up to 525°C where the corrosion rate is reported to be about 0.08 cm/yr (see Nickel and nickel alloys). [Pg.446]

Porous parts and bearings are made by both the press and sinter techniques, whereas filters are made by loose powder sintering. The metals most commonly used for P/M porous products are bron2e, stainless steel (type 316), nickel-base alloys (Monel, Inconel, nickel), titanium, and aluminum. [Pg.188]

Other alloys have been developed for use in particular corrosive environments at high temperatures. Several of these are age-hardenable alloys which contain additions of aluminum and titanium. Eor example, INCONEL alloys 718 and X-750 [11145-80-5] (UNS N07750) have higher strength and better creep and stress mpture properties than alloy 600 and maintain the same good corrosion and oxidation resistance. AHoy 718 exhibits excellent stress mpture properties up to 705°C as well as good oxidation resistance up to 980°C and is widely used in gas turbines and other aerospace appHcations, and for pumps, nuclear reactor parts, and tooling. [Pg.7]

Corrosivity. Anhydrous hydrogen sulfide has a low general corrosivity toward carbon steel, aluminum. Inconel, Stehite, and 300-series stainless steels at moderate temperatures. Temperatures greater than ca 260°C can produce severe sulfidation of carbon steel. Alternative candidates for hydrogen... [Pg.135]
